ILFAT, Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking

ILFAT, the Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking, emerged in response to a critical need for a unified and influential voice against human trafficking. The catalyst for its formation was the disappointment stemming from the non-passage of the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection, and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018, in the Rajya Sabha, despite its approval in Lok Sabha. Recognising the potential strength in collective advocacy, survivors of trafficking envisioned and founded ILFAT, a groundbreaking platform driven "by survivors, for survivors."

Established in 2018, ILFAT's primary objective is to amplify the impact of survivors' voices by fostering a united front against trafficking. The genesis of ILFAT represents a strategic shift towards a collective approach, acknowledging that the power to effect legislative change and societal transformation lies in the shared experiences and resilient voices of survivors. It serves as a testament to the philosophy that, by consolidating their strength and advocating as a united force, survivors can play a pivotal role in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at preventing, protecting, and rehabilitating victims of trafficking.

ILFAT, as part of Leadership Next, signifies a commitment to collaborative leadership, where survivors actively participate in decision-making processes, contribute to policy discussions, and collectively steer the direction of anti-trafficking efforts. By providing a platform for survivors to share their insights, aspirations, and challenges, ILFAT embodies the essence of Leadership Next – a program dedicated to fostering leadership within the survivor community and catalysing systemic change in the fight against human trafficking.
